This course will meet virtually Apr 16-17, 2024 from 1:00-4:30 pm EST and is eligible for 6.5 SHRM/HRCI re-certification credits. Please be sure you can attend all classes before registering.

This is the second of three courses that constitute the Managing People sequence. You can also consider signing up for Managing People: Leadership or Managing People: Counseling and Discipline, the other two courses in the sequence (none are pre-requisites for the other, but the course material does build).

One of the important roles of any supervisor is to help employees work to the best of their ability. In this context, supervisors will help staff develop their abilities and their understanding of appropriate roles as independent variables resulting in better performance. This course will ask participants to consider ways in which they can truly acquire competence in this staff development function.

Learning Objectives: At the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Describe and explain the relationship among effort, performance, role perception and ability;
  • Describe and explain the concept of equity and its relationship to employee morale;
  • Create documents that eliminate ambiguity when helping staff understand the roles they are to play at work;
  • Determine the types of interventions that are most likely to help individuals learn at work;
  • Apply criteria in deciding what rewards are appropriate in recognizing individual and group achievements; and,
  • Give feedback that helps employees learn how to work most effectively.

Registration fee is $295. Complete registration below. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Education Program Coordinator, Sanjay Saverimuttu (sxs7397@psu.edu). Transactions are eligible for a full refund until the first day of classes, afterwards no refunds will be accepted.
