Professional Bio
Rex Simpson is a Professor of Practice in Labor and Employment Relations. He is a 1970 Penn State graduate in labor studies and a 1975 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. Shortly after graduating from law school, he spent nearly five years as an attorney with the NLRB at its Pittsburgh regional office. Following the NLRB, Rex entered private industry where he worked both as an in house counsel and in a wide variety of HR management positions. He ended his industrial career in 2013 at Yokohama Tire Corporation where he was Vice President of Administration. After teaching part time in our MPS program since 2008, and winning the 2011 Kelley-Willits award for excellence in online teaching, Rex retired from private industry and joined our faculty full time in 2013.
Rex's work experience include serving as an in-house labor and employment attorney and in a wide variety of human resource positions with heavy emphasis in labor and employee relations. During his career, he negotiated contracts with the former Retail Clerks, the Teamsters, the United Auto Workers, and most recently, with the Steelworkers. He has also managed organizational campaigns, presented arbitration cases, and along with outside counsel, worked on a variety of litigated employment law matters. Rex is a licensed labor lawyer admitted in both Pennsylvania and California.
