Program:

The breadth, depth, and sheer magnitude of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on our healthcare delivery system is unlike anything we have ever experienced. How and where consumers receive care has changed dramatically, and most likely permanently.  Early in the pandemic, medical appointments were canceled and follow up care delayed due to fear of spreading the coronavirus, negatively affecting physician practices. Hospitals, reliant on surgical procedures to drive revenue to their bottom line, experienced operating revenue losses in the millions of dollars, while the cost to provide care to infected patients significantly outpaced reimbursement despite the U.S. government’s attempt to mitigate those losses. Lack of personal protective equipment, surges of infected patients that exceed hospital capacity and personnel resources, and the extra precautions necessary to safely provide care have taken a toll on our essential healthcare workers. The emotional toll on our caregivers is further exacerbated by the restrictions on visitors anxious to see their loved ones in their final moments, along with the fear that these same essential care providers will take the virus home and infect their family members.

The purpose of this webinar is to describe the operational and financial impact of COVID-19 on hospitals and healthcare systems and describe the approaches, best practices, and challenges to supporting an organization through large, complex changes during this extraordinarily disruptive period.
