UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Tom Hogan, professor of practice in human resource management, has been invited to speak at the 2020 Teaching and Learning with Technology Symposium in March. Hogan will be discussing his innovative approaches to student engagement and engaged scholarship.  

The Symposium is designed to present attendees with the opportunity to network with colleagues, share how technology is improving teaching and learning in unique ways, and generate new project ideas that continue to push the University's educational mission forward in novel ways.

Hogan’s session is titled: “Creating Transformative Experiences: Leveraging Technology to Promote Student Engagement and Engaged Scholarship.” The session will share perspectives, approaches and insights regarding the potential contributions of using technology to promote student engagement and engaged scholarship.

Technologies to be highlighted include artificial intelligence, machine learning, natural language processing, virtual and augmented reality, and 5G. Hogan will spotlight how the discussion of these technologies have been embedded into his signature class, LER 460 Ethics in the Workplace, to examine the ethical challenges posed by the convergence of technology and human beings in the workplace and society.

Hogan has over thirty years of experience as a practitioner, including twenty-three years with AT&T with assignments in sales, sales support, business development, marketing, and human resources. He has served in leadership positions in higher education and the corporate sector. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses and his research interests include Global Leadership Development, Global Diversity and Inclusion, Business Ethics, Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability. Currently, Hogan serves as a Scholar-in-Residence at the Center for the Performing Arts at Penn State’s College of Arts and Architecture and as a member of the Community Advisory Council. He was selected a scholar for the Penn State Student Engagement Network Faculty Academy for academic years 2019 - 2020.
