May 2020 Acting Director’s Update

May 19, 2020

The School of Labor and Employment Relations is a community. We faculty, staff, students, and alumni look after each other, but we also try to look after those around us. This includes workers across the globe. In the current circumstances, our sense of community has become even stronger.

Although our graduating students are severely disappointed not to get back to campus to have those last fun nights out with their friends and to say goodbye to their professors, we nevertheless have heard heartwarming messages. On the whole, they are doing well and report feeling supported and understood in the challenges they have faced. We wish them every success as they embark on the next stage of their lives as strong, confident experts in their field.

The mission of the School of LER is to make organizations, workplaces, and communities better. We do this by making lives better – every day in some small way. You can read below about some of these ways, through student experiences, our educational programs, and our research. We have outreach faculty breaking through the lockdown with virtual offerings and research faculty conducting internationally recognized studies to help minimize the impact of the pandemic on employees and the workplace. Meanwhile, students are overcoming all odds to complete their studies.

I will keep my words here to a minimum as the stories below say much more. I am very proud to be part of this school, as you all should be proud to be part of its history. Stay safe and healthy!
