CGWR Reacts to the Times with COVID-Inspired Short Course

September 24, 2020

In response to concerns about workers during the coronavirus pandemic, center director Dr. Mark Anner and the Global Labour University collaborated to create a free online course to provide “unionists, scholars, and practitioners from around the world with critical knowledge on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on workers in global supply chains and labor’s response to protect workers.”

The course, titled, “Global Supply Chains in Times of COVID-19” is the newest course in a series of similar programs offered by GLU and explores key questions in rethinking the global supply chains as well as proposals and policy measures to begin change. The center and the M.P.S. program in Labor and Global Workers’ Rights are part of the GLU network.

The course consists of video lectures by international experts from academia, trade unions, and civil society at large and readings selected by the experts. Discussion and quiz questions are designed to help course participants to reflect on how the knowledge received through the lectures applies to their local context and webinars and Zoom workshops for each unit to enable course participants to engage directly with the course experts. The course is asynchronous; if you enroll in the course after the five-week session has begun, you will still have access to all past content.

“In this period of COVID, our international networking is more important than ever," Anner said. "Our ability to reach out globally and discuss common problems and common solutions are so crucial and we hope that this course contributes to that effort.”
