School of Labor and Employment Relations (LER):

The Amy Dietz student advocacy award is awarded annually to a student enrolled in one of the LER School’s online programs.  The nominees must be enrolled in at least one online class at the time of their nomination.  All students regardless of academic standing or program would be eligible for consideration.    

The award is intended to recognize students who are actively engaged in advocacy on behalf of an issue, cause or group.

Selection criteria would consider:   

1. the student’s passion and support for the cause, issue or group,  
2. the relative value or importance to society of the cause, issue or group (it does not have to be student related), and  
3. the effectiveness of the student’s advocacy efforts.   

This advocacy can take a number of forms, including, but not limited to:  

1. writing and speaking on behalf of the group or cause,  
2. raising money on behalf of the group or cause,  
3. physically working on behalf of the group or cause,  
4. testifying on behalf of the group or cause before government bodies,  
5. organizing public support and activities on behalf of the group or cause and  
6. engaging in any other activities that the online team deems effective and appropriate. 

The Online team reserves the right to reject nominations involving causes inconsistent with the LER School’s mission or values.  

The award will consist of a plaque and a cash award of a $500 scholarship.   A student may only win the award once. 

Penn State employees receiving the educational benefit are not eligible for consideration for this scholarship.

Deadlines:

Nominations must be submitted no later than November 15th.  

The winner will be announced no later than November 27^th.

Students can self-nominate or can be nominated from a member of the PSU community (fellow student, staff member, faculty member)
