Professional Bio

Kayi Yiu is a graduate student in the Master of Professional Studies in Labor & Global Workers’ Rights. In 2015, She graduated from South China Normal University with a Bachelor's degree in Communication. Currently serving as a graduate assistant at Penn State, she researches Chinese immigrant workers in the manufacturing sector in the U.S.Kayi brings a wealth of journalistic expertise, with seven years of experience reporting on human rights issues in China, encompassing labor rights, social movements, freedom of expression, and gender equality. She has excellent skills in communication, investigation, and storytelling.In her role as the editor-in-chief at NGOCN, a non-profit independent media outlet in China, Kayi showcased her leadership skills in project management and public fundraising. At that time, she spearheaded a civil journalism support project that promoted independent reporting. Transitioning to freelancing in 2022, Kayi continued her commitment to social justice reporting. Her outstanding work earned a nomination for the True Story Awards 2023, a global prize in journalism.
