Biography:

Miguel R. Olivas-Luján, Ph.D. is a Teaching Professor at The Pennsylvania State University’s School of Labor and Employment Relations and the Associate Director of the Center for International Human Resources Studies (CIHRS). A former Chair and Professor at Clarion University of Pennsylvania, his research interests include: Human Resource Management, Evidence-based Management, Diversity, Information Technology, Culture, and the interrelations among these areas. His work has been published in four languages and earned awards multiple times. His work has appeared in multiple outlets, including The Journal of International Business Studies (JIBS)The International Journal of Human Resources Management (IJHRM), as well as others.

He has taught at the Technische Hochschuhle Deggendorf (Germany) and at Uniwersytet Marii Curie-Skłodowskiej (Poland), in addition to UNICEN (Argentina) and Monterrey Tech (Mexico). His courses include Human Resource Management, Social Innovations and Technology, Gender and Diversity in Organizations, Cross-Cultural Management, Business Ethics, Nonprofit Management, Occupational Safety Management, Global Business Leadership, Gender and Diversity in Management and Marketing, Management Theory & Practice, Total Rewards, Industrial Relations and Public Policy, International Business Strategy, Business, Society and Corporate Conduct, Leadership and Organization, Marketing for Nonprofits, Operations Management and Information Systems, Business Information Systems, International Business Negotiation, International Competitiveness Analysis, International Dimensions of Organizational Behavior, International Negotiations and Conflict Management, International Promotion and Advertising, Introduction to Multinational Corporations, Organizational Theory and Behavior, and Strategy and Public Policy.

His education includes a Bachelor’s in Computer Engineering and a Master’s in Management with concentration in International Business from Monterrey Tech (one of the highest ranked universities in Latin America) and a Doctor of Philosophy in Human Resources and Organizational Behavior with a concentration in International Social Issues, from the University of Pittsburgh.

In 2014-19, he served as Chair for the Management Education and Development (MED) Division of the Academy of Management (AOM), as well as served in the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM)’s “Global Expertise Panel,” and in its United States Technical Advisory Group (US TAG) on Human Resource Management Standards Technical Committee for the International Standards Organization (ISO/TC 260).

A Senior Editor for the Advanced Series in Management (Emerald Group Publishing, UK), he has published over fifty scientific articles, scholarly book chapters and encyclopedic entries, and served on editorial boards, including the International Journal of Managerial and Enterprise Development (IJMED)Journal of Applied Management and Entrepreneurship (JAME)South Asian Journal of Business Studies (SAJBS, formerly S.A.J. of Global Business Research or SAJGBR)Journal of Managerial Issues, and the Journal of Managerial Psychology; he has served as guest-editor of special issues for JMP, HRMJ, and ARLA: Academia, Revista Latinoamericana de Administración. He was Editor-in-Chief for The Business Journal of Hispanic Research.

Miguel has varying fluency levels in Spanish, English, French, Italian, German, Dutch, and Polish. He earned a first-degree Black Belt in Korean martial arts and enjoys listening to and performing soft music in string instruments and keyboards.
