Mikael Ruukel has ten years of experience with Swedish trade unions. He is currently on study leave from his employment at the Swedish public service union Vision, where he works as a Legal Advisor and International Secretary. With an LL.M. in Labor Law from Lund University in Sweden, he has experience with litigation, education and advising. Since 2016, his primary focus has been international policy advising and legal research. He is also the author of “Obeståndsrätt och lönefordringar” (“Insolvency Law and Wage Claims”, Wolters Kluwer/Norstedts Juridik, 2016), which is a guiding handbook for labor lawyers. He has represented his union and its union federation at the annual International Labour Conference of the International Labour Organization (ILO), and in several national and international committees.

Mikael is now enrolled in the MPS program in Labor and Global Workers´ Rights at The Pennsylvania State University, with the ambition to broaden his knowledge and perspectives in international labor relations and international trade union work. With his capstone and internship, Mikael wishes to gather further experiences and insights into these matters, particularly from an American point of view.
