International management & organization; current research: global leadership, cross-cultural compassion, organizational inclusiveness and ethics, informal institutions and international HRM.

Biography:

Sven teaches and researches in the field of international management and organization at The Peter J. Tobin College of Business at St. John's University in New York City. His research interests focus on questions of relevance for global leaders, especially expatriate managers, and organizational developers with a global perspective. His recent studies have addressed, among others, expatriate performance and adjustment issues, the dynamics of formal-informal institutional interactions and their co-evolution in transitional as well as advanced economies, challenges to social responsibility and sustainability, and questions concerning ethical behavior within informal social network structures in an international business context. 

Sven worked for several years in the East Asian automotive industry, managing operations for the Robert Bosch Group in Tokyo, Seoul, and Stuttgart. Before joining Tobin, he was a post-doctoral fellow and research associate funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) at the Institute of East Asian Studies (IN-EAST) and the Mercator School of Management at the Duisburg-Essen University in Germany. He was awarded a Dr. rer. oec. degree from the Duisburg-Essen University for his research on the influence of informal institutions on managerial decision-making behavior. 

Sven has taught management courses on all academic levels (Bachelor, Master/MBA, PhD). He held numerous research and teaching related visiting positions at institutions such as The University of Tokyo, Seoul National University, Yonsei University, Korea University and others. He has been leading and participating in consulting and research projects for the European Commission and other public institutions. His works appeared predominately in international business and organization related journals. Sven is a member of the American Council on Germany (New York). Since 2016 he is a member of the New Leader program of the Carnegie Council for Ethics in International Affairs, a New York City based think tank.
