Sixth Global Conference on International Human Resource Management
The Sixth Global Conference on International Human Resource Management was held on June 13–14, 2024, in Gothenburg, Sweden. It was hosted by the Centre for Global Human Resource Management, Gothenburg, Sweden, and organized by the CIHRS. Executives and scholars came together to discuss this year’s theme: Expanding the Global Workforce and Workplace!
Sixty people attended the Sixth Global Conference on IHRM to present research and discuss the key trends emerging in International HRM. The conference featured keynote speaker Wayne Cascio, Ph.D., Distinguished University Professor Emeritus, University of Colorado Denver, United States of America who discussed remote and hybrid work and the effects on IHRM.
The Seventh Global Conference on International Human Resource Management is currently being planned for June 2026: Watch for further details in the fall!


CRANET Research Network
CRANET is affiliated with the College of the Liberal Arts at Penn State and housed within the CIHRS. The CIHRS coordinates the research and activities of this global network of academic institutions conducting a regular survey of human resource management (HRM) in organizations across more than forty countries. Participation in the study benefits HR practitioners by benchmarking HRM practices and trends and provides rigorous academic data for publications and teaching materials.
The CIHRS oversaw the planning and execution of an international meeting for CRANET in Gothenburg, Sweden, in June 2024, and a virtual meeting in November 2024. At these meetings, the CRANET Survey revision process continued as members collaborated and shared expertise on subjects related to international human resource management. The opportunity to meet and collaborate in person, combined with online meetings, has helped this network of over 100+ people flourish for over 30 years.

IHRM Database Project
The CIHRS continues its initiative to provide CRANET Research Network members and other IHRM scholars with a valuable resource for accessing, assessing, and comparing IHRM databases. This project aims to maintain and enhance a centralized resource for international human resource management (IHRM) databases.
Events
IHRM Webinar Series
The IHRM webinar series, started in 2020, continues into its sixth year due to its outstanding success in showcasing distinguished scholars worldwide. The webinar events include a collaboration between the CIHRS (Penn State) and PennWest in the United States, the Centre for Global Workforce Strategy at Simon Fraser University in Canada, and ESCP Business School in Europe. All previous webinars are available on our YouTube channel.
This year, more than 100 new subscribers found our channel, and there are now more than 700 subscribers following the IHRM Webinar channel on YouTube. Past webinars such as Micheal Morely’s on “How have Management and HRM scholars shaped the conversation on the COVID-19 Pandemic?” have been viewed thousands of times.
These webinars are a fantastic resource to spark research creativity and shed light on upcoming topics in IHRM. They are a valuable resource for professors and students in the classroom as well as practitioners working in international HRM.

International HRM Scholarly Research Award
Every year at the Academy of Management Meeting, CIHRS sponsors the HR Division’s International HRM Scholarly Research Award, which recognizes the most impactful scholarly article on an international HRM topic published in the previous year. In 2024, the winners were Mihaela Dimitrova (WU Vienna), John Kammeyer-Mueller (University of Minnesota), Margaret A. Shaffer (University of Oklahoma), and Marlene Gruber (WU Vienna) for their paper “Escaping the rut: Bridging research on expatriate and organizational newcomer adjustment” published in Journal of World Business, 2023, 58(6).

Visiting Scholars
The CIHRS provides opportunities for scholars engaged in research matching our international HRM agenda by supporting a visiting scholars program.
To apply for a visiting scholar position, please submit a full CV and cover letter, clearly explaining how you could see your research contributing to the vision of the CIHRS.
