Biography:

Tim Reams is a senior in the 5 year integrated undergraduate / graduate (IUG) B.S. Labor & Employment Relations / M.S. Human Resources/Employment Relations program at Penn State University. He is also pursing two minors in Health Policy Administration and Deafness Hearing studies. Tim has a firm foundational belief in the ideas of continuous improvement, adaptability, and professional growth. He is interested in various fields of human resources including compensation, operations, and compliance, but believes his well-rounded skill-set will also translate well into a future in consulting.

 

At Penn State, Tim has demonstrated a capacity for leadership in the School of Labor and Employment Relations. For the organization Student Works at Penn State (SWAPS), Tim has served in the past as the Head of Recruitment, Director of Organizing Strategy, Vice President, and is now currently President. The organization seeks to advocate for the Labor Movement in a equitable and modern context that delivers powerful messages and outcomes for workers' rights. Tim leads the club with an emphasis on campus presence and community growth. He has also served as a tutor and mentor in the Morgan Academic Center where he has helped student athletes reach their individual academic goals while contributing to an NCAA 4th best 201 Academic All-Americans.

 

In the field of HR, Tim has served as the lead strategic HR Partner of the Penn State News Blog, OnwardState.com. For the blog, Tim has worked to create and implement various HR policies, succession plans, and also serves as the generalist to a staff of 50 writers and photographers. Having interned in Austin, Texas as a sophomore in HRIS for the global semiconductor corporation NXP, he had the chance to become well rounded not only in the use of metrics in HR, but also in the fields of diversity and engagement. The following summer Tim was given the opportunity to return to Texas, but in Houston as a rotational HR intern for ChevronPhillips Chemical Company. At CPChem, Tim was granted the opportunity to rotate through various corporate groups and manufacturing sites working on projects that varied from Labor contract negotiations and employee relations’ investigations, to compensation and operations analytics. Living 1500 miles from home for two summers while gaining diverse professional experience has afforded Tim the opportunities to gain knowledge and skills that will translate well into a variety of fields for any organization.

Tim is actively seeking an internship for the 2019 summer where he will be able to further hone in on his professional skills and develop a deeper sense of direction for his future career. He is willing to do any field of work for an organization where he can contribute value, but has a strong desire to be challenged and have the freedom to think critically and dynamically as a problem-solver.
